Dr. Brandman is the UC Davis site-PI for the BrainGate2 clinical trial, focusing on developing a neural interface to restore communication and movement to people with paralysis.
BrainGate is developing and testing practical, groundbreaking medical devices to restore communication, mobility and independence to people affected by neurologic disease, paralysis, or limb loss. Their research team includes leading neurologists, neuroscientists, engineers, computer scientists, neurosurgeons, mathematicians, and other researchers – all focused not only on improving the ability to operate a computer, but also on providing people with ALS, spinal cord injury, and stroke with reliable, constant control over their environment.
Their work was awarded the 2024 Sean M. Healey International Prize for Innovation in ALS.
